Here are three exciting updates from the realm of Rick and Morty:
Firstly, the Emmy-winning series is set to return with its highly anticipated eighth season in 2025, marking a departure from its usual annual release schedule. This shift is attributed to production delays stemming from last year’s Writers Guild strike, which affected the timeline for new episodes following the conclusion of the seventh season in December.
Furthermore, today marks a significant milestone as the entire seventh season of Rick and Morty is now available for streaming on Max, ensuring that fans can enjoy every episode conveniently on the platform.
In addition to these developments, fans can look forward to the premiere of the inaugural season of the spin-off “Rick and Morty: The Anime” later this year. Directed by Takashi Sano, known for his work on “Tower of God” and previous Rick and Morty anime shorts, this series promises to offer a fresh perspective on the beloved characters and multiverse adventures. Recently, Adult Swim unveiled the first footage from the anime, generating excitement and anticipation among viewers eagerly awaiting new animated escapades from their favorite universe.
“Rick and Morty: The Anime” is a new venture helmed by director Takashi Sano, known for his work on “Tower of God” and two acclaimed anime shorts within the Rick and Morty universe: “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil).”
This standalone series is set to carve its own path as an original creation. Produced by Telecom Animation Film, the first season promises 10 episodes packed with multiverse-straddling adventures. These escapades, led by Rick and his unconventional family, often challenge their familial bonds, yet they consistently rise to meet every challenge.
In a previous statement, Sano expressed his enthusiasm: “The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion. It’s such a life-affirming sight, and Jerry is no exception.” He added, “I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!”
This upcoming series aims to explore fresh narratives and expand upon the beloved characters of Rick and Morty in exciting and unexpected ways, promising fans a rich continuation of their favorite animated universe.
Earlier, a teaser trailer was unveiled for “The Anime” during San Diego Comic-Con:
The announcement comes after the flagship series underwent a significant overhaul behind the scenes for its seventh season, introducing new voice talent—Ian Cardoni as Rick and Harry Belden as Morty—to take over the roles previously held by co-creator Justin Roiland. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, both actors shared their thoughts on stepping into these iconic roles.
“Waking up every day has been incredibly surreal,” Belden reflected. “For the first month after landing the role, I kept asking my girlfriend if it had really happened, if I truly was the new Morty. The realization that I am now playing a character I’ve admired and loved for years, as a huge fan myself, is beyond words—it’s pure joy.”
